Federal Programs under the direction of Carol Wood, Federal Programs Coordinator, account for approximately $1,159,000.00 in Federal funding and include the following grants and programs:
Title I—Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged—Mustang Public Schools has 4 elementary sites and 2 middle school sites that qualify for Title I services. Services include additional educational opportunities to qualifying students in the areas of math and reading. There are currently 12 teachers and 2 paraprofessionals who serve students for these extra services. Funding from this grant pays for materials, supplies, required professional development and parental involvement to operate the 6 programs, 8 teachers and 2 paraprofessional salaries
Title IIA-Improving Teacher and Principal Quality--Professional Development opportunities are funded through this grant. Title IID-Educational Technology—Technology software is funded through this grant.
Title IID-Educational Technology Professional Development—Professional Development technology opportunities are funded through this grant.
Title III-English Language Learners-Services to bilingual students who qualify for ELL services to ensure that these students master English and meet the same rigorous standards for academic achievement as all children are expected to meet. All district sites receive ELL services. Currently there are 3 elementary teachers and 1 secondary teacher serving students. Funding for this grant pays for materials, supplies, testing and required professional development opportunities.
Title IV—Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities-This grant provides funding for Red Ribbon Week, research based curriculum for at risk behaviors, group counseling and drug dogs. The District Safe and Healthy Living Committee is a requirement of this funding.
Title V-Innovative Programs-Currently the funding received for this grant is being used to provide the materials for the Focus on Reading programs at both middle schools. This program is used to raise reading scores in students.
Title VII-Indian Education—Mustang Public Schools provides additional reading and math services to qualifying Native American students in the district. There are currently 2 elementary teachers and 1 secondary teacher for these services. Funding from this grant provides for supplies, materials, after school, summer tutoring and the salaries of the 3 teachers. RSA-The Reading Sufficiency Act of Oklahoma has required school districts in the state of Oklahoma to test students in grades K-3, those students who are at risk for reading are then identified, placed on a reading plan and served by one of the 6 reading specialists in the district. Funding from this source provides for testing, supplies and materials related to individual and small group tutoring.
Carl Perkins—This is a federal grant from the Oklahoma State Department of Career and Technology that is used to supplement the District’s 10 Career Tech Programs. 6 programs at the High School-2 Agricultural Education, 2 Family and Consumer Sciences, 1 Marketing and 1 Automotive Services Program, 2 at the Mid-High—1 Family and Consumer Sciences and 1 Business and Information Technology, and 1 Technology Education programs, one at each Middle School. Funding from this grant is used to add technology to these programs.
